About us

The Stop Hadley campaign was created by the Penge Preservation Society, which is an unincorporated association set up by local residents who care about Penge and what is going to happen to it.

We want to see our local area improved and revitalised, this is way overdue. However, Hadley’s current proposal is massively over developed and (understandably, as they are a commercial organisation) focused on making as much money as possible. With the best will in the world, the well being and views of local people and businesses will be secondary to their duty to their investors, who want them to make a profit.

We want to see Hadley’s current plans turned down – the needs of a few investors and hedge funds should not override the interests of local residents. Instead, we want to see a new vision for Penge, one that is balanced, responsible, sympathetic, in proportion, in character with the local high street, sensitive, responsive and in tune with the needs of local people. We want to see a plan that actually BENEFITS and ENHANCES the local area, adding real community, business and environmental value, something we can all be proud of.

To achieve this, we need your two penny-worth. We need you to help build an effective and representative local community voice that can make a difference. The goal is to make sure local people’s views are at the heart of future development plans, not simply the needs of hedge funds and investors.
